VÍTKOVICE STEEL helped the handicapped through the endowment fund again

During August and September, the VÍTKOVICE STEEL Foundation received over 90 applications for financial support. All of them were studied in detail and then the Board of Directors selected 31 applications, which were fully or partially granted. In total, the Foundation will provide CZK 2 million in financial contributions, as in previous years. The support will be paid to the selected applicants later this year.

The main intention of the foundation was to help specific individuals improve their difficult life situation by contributing to rehabilitation exercises or stays, treatment or therapy, specific medical aids, assistance services, or sports activities. A large part of the financial support will go to families with children who have mental or physical disabilities. This is also the case of little Eliska Anna, who suffers from a neurodegenerative disease. Thanks to the financial contribution from the foundation, she will be able to undergo an intensive rehabilitation stay at the Klimkovice Sanatorium, which will help her in her further physical development.

 "Every application we received had a strong story to tell, and deciding who we would support this year was extremely difficult," says Klára Šugárková, Marketing Manager at VÍTKOVICE STEEL, "But we are grateful to have had the opportunity to meet each of the donors personally and share their stories with them."

The VÍTKOVICE STEEL Foundation has supported some applicants repeatedly. Among them is, for example, eleven-year-old Kristýnka, who has a rare genetic defect, and as she grows, she needs new customized foreign braces to continue her rehabilitation program, which will then have a positive effect on her participation in everyday life, especially in the special school she attends. Jacob, who relies on personal assistance to cope with daily life and developmental activities, also received a contribution. Unfortunately, not all entities are assisting such cases as they have an age limit of 30 years and Jakub has already exceeded this limit.

The culmination of this year's call was a meeting with the selected applicants at the headquarters of VÍTKOVICE STEEL, a. s., the founder of the endowment fund, in Ostrava on 20 November 2023, during which, among other things, donation contracts were signed and representatives of the endowment fund and its founder were able to meet the applicants and their families in person and hear their stories. The personal meeting was very nice and friendly even though the situation of the applicants is often complex and unimaginably difficult.

The Foundation has also long supported applicants from among the employees of VÍTKOVICE STEEL, a. s., who have found themselves in a difficult life situation and are caring for a handicapped child, for example. Since 2006, the VÍTKOVICE STEEL Endowment Fund has contributed to social projects and helped handicapped people in the Moravian-Silesian Region with a total amount exceeding CZK 76 million. The next call will be announced next year.
